Legend has it that a fisherman from Glossa, while returning home one night, saw a light on the top of the rock a light. This incident reoccurred for several nights until a woman came into his dream and told him that where he sees the light, there is an icon. The fisherman climbed to the top of the rock and found the icon of Saint John (ai yiannis church skopelos) the Baptist. He then took it to a different location for safekeeping. But the icon would return to its original place on top of the rock. After a while, he built a little church to protect the icon.
