Skopelos has no airport, so every visit begins with a sea crossing — and that turns out to be one of the best parts. Your first glimpse of the island is pine-covered hillsides, white houses stacked above a harbour, and water so clear you can see the bottom from the deck. Most ferries arrive at Skopelos Town (Chora) or Loutraki (the port for Glossa), while the smaller harbour at Agnontas is used occasionally when weather diverts traffic.
The real question is which route to take. That depends on where you are starting, what time of year you are travelling, and whether you need to bring a car. The comparison table below lays out every option at a glance. Pick the route that fits, then follow the link to the full guide.

Which Route Should You Choose?
- From Athens: Mantoudi (Evia) is the fastest option — as little as 90 minutes from the port to Skopelos by high-speed ferry. Agios Konstantinos runs limited summer service, mainly in August.
- From Northern Greece: Volos operates year-round and has the broadest timetable. Thessaloniki offers direct summer sailings if you want to skip the drive south.
- Flying in from abroad: Book a flight to Skiathos Airport (JSI), then take a ferry or water taxi for the short hop to Skopelos. Adrina Hotels also operates a private water taxi transfer for guests — a comfortable premium option if you want a direct door-to-door pickup.
- With a car: Mantoudi and Volos are the most reliable choices. Both accept vehicles on conventional ferries year-round, though deck space fills up fast on summer weekends — book ahead.
Skopelos has three arrival ports:
Skopelos Town (Chora)
,
Loutraki/Glossa
, and
Agnontas
. Your ticket will show which port the ferry stops at, so double-check before you board.
Booking Tips
Use Ferryscanner to compare routes side by side, then cross-check prices on the ferry company’s own website before paying. In July and August, vehicle spots and popular Friday-to-Sunday sailings sell out early — book as soon as your dates are firm. If you are connecting through Skiathos Airport, build in at least two hours of buffer between your flight landing and the ferry departure. Download or screenshot your tickets in advance; mobile signal at busy ports can be patchy.
When Schedules Are Published
Summer timetables are finalised after Easter, with the most frequent service running from mid-June through mid-September. May and October sailings are thinner but perfectly workable if you plan around them. In winter, reliable connections run from Volos and Mantoudi, though with fewer departures per day, so flexibility on travel date and time helps.
Ferry operators adjust timetables by demand and weather — treat published schedules as seasonal frameworks, not fixed year-round promises. That is standard practice in the Sporades. If you have a wedding, event, or strict check-in time, book the most direct route and avoid tight same-day connections.
Arrival Ports on Skopelos
Skopelos Town (Chora) is the main hub — most hotels, car rental offices, shops, and bus connections are here or nearby. Loutraki (Glossa) is the better port if you are staying in northern Skopelos (Glossa, Elios, Panormos). Agnontas is a small fishing harbour used as an alternative berth when weather affects the other ports. Whichever port you arrive at, share the exact name with your hotel or car rental company in advance so transfers are waiting in the right place.
