ASSUMPTION OF THE VIRGIN MARY

The Church of the Assumption in Glossa Village celebrates its most significant occasion on the 15th of August, a date of great importance in Greek Orthodoxy. This day is dedicated to Panagia or the Virgin Mary. Specifically, it commemorates the Assumption of Theotokos, which signifies the passing of Panagia, the mother of Christ. It is a solemn day of remembrance and devotion throughout Greece.

The church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary or Panagia in Glossa is one of the two parish churches. It is a large three-aisled basilica built several years ago, replacing an older single-aisled church. The entrance is on the west side. The church has three semicircular arches. The side aisles are covered by clapboard roofs. On the walls hang icons from the 18th century. Two of them date back to 1788 and one to 1789. They undoubtedly belonged to the original church.
