Marine Museum of Glossa

Skopelos is famous for its cultural heritage and its history. In the village of Glossa in Loutraki, there is the Museum of Cultural Heritage of the Hellenic Foundation and the Library of the Athenian Perseus Foundation.

The inhabitants of Glossa have named this museum “Nautical Museum” because of its theme, as visitors will see the island’s inseparable relationship with the sea and the Greek ships.

Inside the museum, visitors can see photos and objects from the submarine Katsonis and Captain Laskos, donated by Mrs Beata Asimakopoulou.

The Navy General Staff and the Navy History Service have also helped shape the museum’s interior. Many executives have also offered the “Persian Athenian” library their work, enriching with this the interior of the Marine Museum.

The building dated back to 1926. It was renovated by local craftsmen in 2007.  The head of the museum is Mrs. Tactic Smaragda.
