TREASURES OF SKOPELOS
Skopelos captivates its visitors with both the beauty of the natural landscape and the magical world of legends that accompanies the island’s history.
Skopelos’ first name in ancient times was Peparithos. This name comes from the first inhabitant of the island Peparithos. Peparithos, along with his brother Stafylos, sons of Ariadne (princess of the Minoan empire in Crete) and god Dionysus (god of wine and vineyards), first settled in Skopelos. Hence the famous “Peparithos Wine”. There was a claim that the locals were even using this exquisite wine in the construction of temples and houses.
Many of the legends of Skopelos refer to well-hidden treasures.
The TREASURE ON PALOUKI MOUNTAIN
One of the hidden treasures of Skopelos is on Palouki Mountain, right opposite Skopelos Town. Many monasteries exist on Palouki Mountain.
A man from Skopelos dreamed of finding a treasure but he must not tell anyone. However, the fear prevailed and this guy did not go alone to the place he had seen in his dream, but with friends. They found the place and did dig but all they could see was a cauldron full of charcoal.

Another legend of Skopelos mentions a hidden treasure on the Stafylos island (prince Stafilos). Due to the impending treasure at the top of the island, many informal excavations have been made. So much so that even the ancient buildings on the island were damaged by the locals’ mania to find the coveted treasure.
GLYFONERI
Another legend is referring to the wonderful Glyfoneri beach. Since there was a hidden treasure at the Stavros (Cross) point under a stone.
But in order to reveal this treasure, the first two twin brothers must be killed.
