Magda Mavrogianni

Magda Mavrogianni is a multifaceted Greek artist, originally from Skopelos, who uniquely combines music, theater, and storytelling into a seamless artistic experience. Born in Athens, she studied music and theater at the National Conservatory of Greece and continued her education in Paris at the École Normale de Musique “Alfred Cortot” and the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique. She has also trained with the renowned director Tadashi Suzuki in New York.

Her film career began with the French movie Celles qu’on a pas eues, followed by a collaboration with Antoine Vitez at the Théâtre National de Chaillot. She has performed in theater, television, and film productions in Greece and abroad, working alongside acclaimed artists such as Francis Huster, Bruno Bayen, Jean-Claude Brialy, Mylène Demongeot, and Michel Aumont. In addition, she has worked as a radio producer for ERT and as a translator of theatrical works, while also teaching piano at the National Conservatory of Athens.

In 1996, she founded the theater company “AXIA”, presenting her own works such as Sakura, Black Story, Adam and Halima, and Twins. Since then, she has dedicated herself to creating musical readings, an original form of theatrical expression where music, narration, and dramaturgy coexist.

Her musical readings bring to life iconic figures such as Georgia Sandi, Alma Mahler, Anna Magdalena Bach, and Cosima Wagner, as well as Maria Callas and Frida Kahlo. Notable works include Maria Callas… on the Divan, When Seferis Met Neruda, Frida Kahlo – Theatre @ Underground, Attik – The Poet of Melody, Theofrastos Sakellaridis – The Smile of Operetta, and Liszt – The 19th-Century Rock Star. Through these performances, she continues to explore the connection between music and the human experience, and she keeps finding inspiration to create and offer new musical readings to audiences.

she presented Frida Kahlo – Theatre @ Underground at the Athens Concert Hall, with text and direction by herself, featuring Matthildi Maggira, mezzo-soprano Marisia Papalexiou, and pianist Dionysis Malouhos. Both performances sold out weeks in advance. She later presented Vivaldi and the Carnival of Venice at the Lillian Voudouri Library of the Concert Hall.

Magda Mavrogianni sees art as a way of life — “my passion and my love for art,” as she has said. Through her unique approach to musical readings, she continues to create works that combine emotion, thought, and poetry, constantly offering new experiences that connect audiences to music and storytelling.
