Museums in Skopelos Island

The island of Skopelos, apart from its undeniable natural beauties, is also famous for its cultural tradition. It is not by chance that there are several museums on the island that remind the youth of the island’s history and revive the oldest memories of the past.

One of the most famous museums on the island is the Folklore Museum in Glossa, which is located above the church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

This museum began its operation in 2002 and is distinguished by the richness of the handicrafts and traditional costumes.

In fact it is an old two-storey traditional house that has been shaped into a museum and through it the visitor can experience the decorations and the traditional architecture of Skopelos.

Inside, one can admire traditional costumes and furnishings and see how the traditional houses of the village have been shaped in the past. He can also see closely how old household items were, and generally explore the history and cultural heritage of the village of Glossa.

The Folklore Museum of Glossa operates in the morning and afternoon during the summer months and guests need to contact by phone before visiting 24240 23494.

Also in Glossa you will find the Museum of Heritage Library of Perseus of the Hellenic Foundation.
