REBETIKO FESTIVAL

Since 2018, the rebetiko festival has become a staple in Skopelos’ cultural calendar. Every summer, the festival has seen resounding success, save for 2020 when it was canceled due to the global pandemic. The annual Rebetiko Festival typically lasts for 3-4 days. Led by the dedicated members of the Cultural and Folklore Association, working hand in hand with the Municipality of Skopelos and the Region of Thessaly, this organization has earned praise from far and wide.

The festival of rebetiko music takes place mainly under the Panagitsa of Pyrgos, in the old harbor. It pays homage to the revered folk composers and singers of rebetiko while also cherishing and safeguarding Skopelos’ vibrant musical legacy. The goal is to delve into the intricacies of rebetiko singing and explore new avenues for its development, alongside the invaluable contributions of artists from Greece, Skopelos, and beyond. Therefore, the organizers and the musicians collectively bolster and enrich the genre.

DAYS OF REBETIKO

Dubbed the “Days of Rebetiko,” the annual festival has captured the hearts of locals and visitors alike, transcending the island’s borders with its popularity. Artists hailing from Greece and beyond converge to showcase their talents, offering a diverse repertoire to eager audiences. Alongside concerts, the festival hosts workshops, exhibitions, and seminars delving into the intricacies of folk instruments, vocal techniques, and rebetiko’s storied history.

Every year, organizers invite esteemed musicians, instrumentalists, and speakers to share their expertise, thus enhancing the cultural experience of the event with engaging seminars and other thought-provoking activities.

The rebetiko festival is held every summer on the island of Skopelos to celebrate rebetiko music and musicians. The festival usually includes live performances by rebetiko musicians, workshops, lectures, and other cultural activities centered around rebetiko music and its history. Besides, Skopelos, with its rich cultural heritage, is the perfect location for such an event. You can find more information about this social media, or by contacting the Skopelos town hall.
