SKOPELOS ARCHEOLOGICAL SIGHTS
Kastro of Skopelos is located in the oldest settlement of the island, Skopelos Town. In fact, during the past the name of Skopelos Town was Peparithos. Moreover, the Venetian Castle is in the north, at the highest point of Chora. But it also has a place on the eastern side near the temple of the Evangelismos.
Today only parts of the majestic wall that once encircled the whole town are preserved. Actually, nowadays only foundation stones exist. The Castle was repaired in the 13th century by the Venetians, for precisely the Venetian wall took the place of the ancient one.
Kastro is an integral whole of Skopelos. At any point in the town, you may stand Kastro is always visible.
The city had a triangular shape and Kastro was a fortress.
The Kastro is at the top of Skopelos Town. After getting up there you will probably have to catch your breath for two reasons; the first one is that the climb is really steep and the second one is that the view from up there will definitely take your breath away.
The Castle can be reached either by car from the ring road or on foot. On foot, the path from Panagitsa to Pyrgos is very beautiful.
