Skopelos

Skopelos is a green and blue island. This island will inspire you with the amazing landscapes where the pine forest touches the sea. After all Skopelos island has taken officially the title of the green and blue island by the International Biopolitical Organization. Since the island (over 67%) is covered by virgin pine forest.

The scent of Skopelos itself is something unique. It is a blend of the ocean breeze along with the smell of the pines.

Although it became very popular with the Holywood movie Mamma Mia, it has remained the traditional essence.

SKOPELOS CHORA

Skopelos Chora always holds its traditional essence. Walking in Skopelos town you will meet picturesque alleys, local corners full of bougainvillea, and lush courtyards. Everywhere is splendid the authentic greek aroma.

While being in Skopelos Chora takes a chance to explore the churches and the museums. Climbing the stairs to reach Panagitsa of Pyrgos is a unique experience. Monasteries, in Palouki mountain, are also worth visiting.

On the other hand, there are many options for entertainment. Skopelos beach is full of cafes and traditional tavernas. This island combines tranquility with fun.

MAMMA MIA IN SKOPELOS

Ai Giannis Chapel

The first place to visit, if you are a Mamma Mia lover, is the famous chapel of Ai Giannis. Agios Ioannis in Kastri is a beautiful church. It is on the north side of Skopelos, close to Glossa Village. The picturesque chapel is built upon a rock. Although you will climb 106 to reach it, you will not regret it. Ai Giannis features amazing views of the Aegean sea to Skiathos.

Donna married Sam in this church. Before she was singing to him “the winner takes it all”.

SKOPELOS BEACHES

Skopelos is famous for its extraordinary beaches. Due to the fact that it is a mountain island, they are created amazing landscapes. The incredible beaches with crystal clear waters and the pine hills all over will steal your heart immediately. The pine trees touch the shore of the sea, as the white sand gets golden shades from the sun.

We highly recommend visiting Milia, Panormos, Stafylos, and Limnonari beach.

However, we take for granted that you are obsessed with the movie Mamma Mia. Therefore, we will suggest to you the beaches where our protagonists singed.

KASTANI BEACH

Kastani beach is one of the most beautiful beaches of Skopelos island. Moreover, it became one of the most popular beaches to Mamma Mia movie. The beach is surrounded by pine hills.  The pines trees hang above the deep blue sea. Kastani beach has mostly golden sand with little white pebbles.

There is an organized beach bar to cover all your needs. Moreover, there are sun loungers and umbrellas.

At Kastani Beach Sophie and Sky sang “Lay All Your Love on Me”. Tanya sang “Does your mother know”. The song “I have a dream” was also recorded at Kastani.

GLYSTERI BEACH

Glysteri beach is very close to Skopelos Chora. This beach will embrace you with the turquoise waters, the white pebbles, and the pine trees. The trees create natural shades. Everywhere on Glysteri beach, you can smell the ocean breeze along with the green nature.

There is an organized beach bar, therefore you do not need to carry your own supplies.

At Glysteri Beach Donna sang with her friends the “dancing queen”. Sophie interpreted “Honey, honey, honey” with her own friends.

Furthermore, many tourist offices organize daily excursions to the places where the scenes of the movie were shot.

So if you “have a dream” come to Skopelos to dance as a “dancing queen” by having the times of your life. Live this summer as it is “last summer” and “take a chance” on the fun!
