Weekend in Skopelos Town

Let’s start with the basics. Getting to Skopelos. Holidaymakers coming from northern Greece will approach Skopelos from Thessaloniki or Volos, while the southerners from Agios Konstantinos or Kymi (Evia) or Mantoudi (Evia). There is always the option to travel by plane from Skiathos airport.

Skopelos Chora is famous for its traditional beauty. Entering the port, the image of the white houses and the amphitheatrically built settlement will overwhelm you.

Being on summer vacation, the first thing that comes to everybody’s mind is the beaches!

BEACHES CLOSE TO SKOPELOS TOWN

AMMOS BEACH

Inside  Skopelos Chora, there is Ammos beach. Ammos Beach is organized and there is also a beach volleyball and a beach bar. It is a sandy beach with shallow sea waters. Ammos Beach is on your left of the main port.

GLISTERI BEACH

The organized Glysteri beach is just 10 minute’s drive from Skopelos Chora. Glisteri is a lush bay with pebbles and easy access. The beach bar of Glisteri Beach is popular!

STAFYLOS BEACH

Stafilos is a sandy beach with large rocks. It is organized with a beach bar. There is also a restaurant. The distance from the Town is just 4 km. Staphylos Beach is named after the Cretan legendary Prince Stafylos.

Once again the pine trees embrace the sea. The combination of green and blue dominates the landscape. From the bus stop to the beach, there is a steep 500-meter downhill.

VELANIO BEACH

Velanio Beach is next to Stafylos. You just need to cross Stafylos Beach and climb the rock. It is a secluded beach with sunset views. The beach has white sand, small pebbles, and crystal clear sea waters

Velanio has officially been declared a nudist beach. It is the only nudist beach in Skopelos.

FOOD

Because you can’t go to the beach hungry but after the sea, your appetite is whetted, let’s see some places for a good breakfast and lunch in Skopelos Chora.

First of all, you should taste the traditional Skopelos cheese pie. Therefore, visit “Michalis”, inside Chora, to taste different versions of the traditional recipe.

BREAKFAST

In Greece, we say “The good day is seen from the morning”. What better way to start the day than with a delicious breakfast? On the beach,  you should visit either  “Karavia Cafe“, “Anemos Coffee Brunch“, or “Kochilis Bakery“. Near the port is the “Kanela” bakery, do not miss it.

RESTAURANTS AND TAVERNAS

In Skopelos, they cook plums with pork, and another special dish is Dusky grouper stifado! There are several choices… Skopelos Town is a heaven of taste.

In Chora, you will find classic taverns with local delicacies that will be unforgettable. In the old port, you will find the “Kyratso”, “Molos” and “Kymata”.

If you would like to taste the famous Greek souvlaki, then visit “Magali” or “Kantina Tasos Eleni Nasta”. “Olivo” is a great choice for pasta, while “Gousto” and “Pizza La Tana” serve excellent pizza.

The grill meat lovers should visit “Peparithos” and “Mylos”. While “Zoupa” and “Rodi” offer more gourmet options.

On the left of the port visit “Stou Dimitraki” for Greek mezedes.

We will make a special mention of the ouzeri of the famous rebeti Giorgos Xintaris. Anatoli, high in the Chora’s castle, is the definition of the Greek summer. George Xintaris and his two sons, Antonis and Thodoris, play Greek rebetiko music every night.

ENTERTAINMENT Nightlife

Well, now it’s time to look at the nightlife options. The truth is that there are plenty of options to satisfy all tastes and needs.

In Skopelos Town, there is a jazz atmosphere. In order, to find it out visit the “Mercurius” cocktail bar in the new port.

If you do like the cocktails then visit “Vrachos” all-day cafe. Vrachos is also famous for its magnificent view.

In the cobblestones, there are also many choices, such as the “Screwdriver” cafe cocktail bar and “Paraporti”. Another very interesting choice is the “Skala” cocktail bar, near the old port.

“La Costa” bar club and “Ntokos” cafe bar, just a few meters from the new port, are great options for party lovers.

SIGHTSEEINGS

Having the time do not miss the opportunity to visit the church Panagitsa of Pyrgos, at the end of the old port. This fabulous church is the trademark of Skopelos. The best time of the day is during the sunset. Climb the stairs and get lost in the amazing sea view.

You can also visit the monasteries on Palouki Mountain, opposite Skopelos Chora.  Iera Moni Sotiros, Moni Timiou Prodromou, Moni Agia Varvara, Moni Evangelistrias, Moni Taxiarchon, Moni Agias Annas, Monastery Pano Panagia.
